What’s Happening In Your Neighborhood?

Ever wonder if there is an easy way to know what’s going on in your neighborhood with respect to proposed projects?plan.png

The Burbank Planning Department has now made it much easier for you to see what is going in your neighborhood!  Proposed and current projects are available via the Planning Projects Map!

With a simple click you can see what’s going on, not only in your area, but throughout the City of Burbank.  The benefits are many as it allows you and other residents to weigh in on proposed projects.

Once you click on a specific project it will bring up the project information, click on that link and it will take you to the alphabetized list for all projects.  I clicked on one of the projects to give you an example of what you will see:

Hope you found this information useful!

Burbank City Council Update!

We don’t have a very heavy agenda this week, but there were items of interest both for last week’s and the upcoming agenda.

Items of Note:

Last week the Burbank City Council approved the parking amendment for multifamily dwellings. dsc00142.JPG

This week the Council will look at the Rancho Amendment again, following up from the September 11th meeting. This time the text has been changed to make grocery stores a prohibited use in the Rancho commercial zones as opposed to just requiring a conditional use permit for the stores to operate.

The Burbank City Council will be meeting Tuesday at 6pm in the Burbank City Hall Council Chambers.

Remember that you can watch the City Council meetings live on Charter Communications Channel 6 or online at City of Burbank’s website.

If you are interested in reading the actual Burbank City Council agendas, please visit the City of Burbank website, City Council Activities!

Have a great week!

Bicycle Fever!

                                               girl on bike

Are you thinking about buying a bicycle or getting back on the dusty one in your garage after watching the Tour De France?

If you are, then you might want to check out the great online maps that are available for bike paths in Los Angeles County.  Another great place to look is Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s (LADOT) Bicycle Maps page which has a list of bicycle path maps throughout Southern California.

The great thing is that you can go for short scenic rides, such as the Chandler Bike Path or get your heart racing with a longer jaunt.  The dedicated bike path along the Los Angeles River is great if you want to take the kids and not have to worry about traffic.  The only downside is you are right next to the 5 Fwy as well.

This is a great way to enjoy your neighborhood and get some exercise, but please, learn proper road etiquette and wear a helmet, don’t take a risk, like the girl in my cartoon!

Test your knowledge of bicycle safety!

Summer is almost over, go out and enjoy our great weather!!!

Griffith Park Update

One of the most wonderful resources we have, Griffith Park, experienced a tragic fire last month. It was truly sobering to watch on TV and quite sad as my husband and I watched the flames in the distance, from our back yard.

More than 800 acres were burned that included Dante’s View and the Bird Sanctuary. For those who are interested in more detailed information about the fire, there is an amazing interactive map that details the path of the fire.

With it’s 4210 acres, Griffith Park has the distinction of being the largest municipal urban park in the United States! It is full of wonderful hiking trails and it’s home to the LA Zoo, LA Observatory, Autry National Center, Greek Theater, LA Equestrian Center, Travel Town and many other great attractions.

Since the fire certain areas remain closed. The City of Los Angeles has set up the Griffith Park Recovery Blog to communicate important information about access as well as recovery efforts in the park.

If you are new to the area, I recommend that you experience Griffith Park first hand!

Magnolia Park

If you are looking for a slice of suburbia within the confines of a big city, then Magnolia Park, in Burbank Califnornia, might be the right nieghborhood for you!

Magnolia Park is a quaint and beautiful area, blocks from the Media Center District, the community is made up of over 3000 homes and hundreds of businesses. This neighborhood is located between Hollywood Way, Buena Vista Street, Clark Ave. and Chandler Blvd. I have spoken to residents, however, that believe the true boundaries go as far east as Pass Ave. and as far south as Verdugo Ave.

However you define the boundaries you are looking at tree lined streets and small town charm. The area offers homes of all types and is a great place to raise kids. It is home to a diverse community and literally minutes from hip and trendy restaurants of Hollywood and NoHo!
